West Texas A&M thrower Zada Swoopes and coach Matt Stewart continued to add to their impressive trophy cases with some more honors this week.
Swoopes finished her career as one of the best throwers in NCAA Division II history and was voted as Division II National Women's Field Athlete of the Year, while head coach Stewart picked up the Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year award.
This is the second time that Stewart has been named Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Buffs to the program's second outdoor national title with a program record 77 points.

Swoopes added another postseason honor to her tremendous resume as she earned the national award for the second straight year following her record breaking performances at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The senior from Whitewright won the shot put and discus national title for the second consecutive season, in addition to her fourth-place finish in the hammer throw. She became the fourth-best performer in meet history with her winning effort of 186-6.0 (56.84m) in the discus. She also became the first Lady Buff to win three individual events at the Lone Star Conference Championships after winning the aforementioned events.
Swoopes finishes her career as a seven-time national champion, 10-time Lone Star Conference champion, and 14-time All-American. She also currently stands as the NCAA D-II indoor shot put record holder and the indoor and outdoor shot put meet record holder.
Journee Phillips will be the fifth member of the West Texas A&M 2022 recruiting class.
The San Antonio product joins Ahamed Mohamed, Brock Mishak, Nicholas Jett and Ryland Holt as the newest additions for the 2022-23 season.
Phillips comes to the Panhandle after spending two seasons at Lone Star Conference competitor Texas A&M International. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 7.7 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 assists per game during his freshman campaign. He averaged just under 20 minutes (19.1) on the court each night and played in a total of 25 games.

His career-high in points (17) came against the Buffs in the final regular-season finale this past year.
Phillips was a four-year letter-winner at Wagner High School where the Thunderbirds went 128-21 overall throughout his career. During his senior season, he helped lead his team to the 5A UIL State Championship title and 32-5 overall record as he averaged 17.6 points, 1.3 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game with eight double-doubles.
Phillips was a three-time All-State honoree for the Thunderbirds along with earning all-region, district, area, and tournament honors. He finished his career as one of the top scorers in Wagner history with over 1,800 points.
