A woman's unusual discovery has wowed the internet after she shared the story of finding lizard eggs in an old makeup bag.

Shared on Saturday by user u/nura_zakir on the popular Reddit forum r/WTF, the picture now has more than 31,000 upvotes and hundreds of comments.

In the post, the Redditor wrote: "Found those weird-looking balls in my abandoned makeup bag. Turns out, those are lizard eggs," alongside a picture of four eggs inside a white bag.

The Redditor shared that the old makeup bag was inside her almirah—a Hindi word meaning free-standing cupboard or wardrobe. Living in Bangladesh, South Asia, the Redditor said: "It's pretty common to see lizards in our home tbh. Lizards are totally harmless and they eat my enemy mosquitoes."

Because of the diverse ecosystems in Bangladesh, it is home to a large number of different lizards—including the Bengal monitor lizard, yellow monitor lizard, and water monitor lizard.

Much more likely to be the result of a common house lizard, the eggs found by the Redditor were laid in a classic place for the reptiles. Lizards are known for laying their eggs anywhere dark and moist, often under woodpiles, sheds and decks—they're also often found beneath shrubs or in tall grass.

The exact number of lizard species is hotly debated. The San Diego Zoo reports over 4,675 different species, while other sources suggest there are closer to 6,000. With four legs, two legs, and some with no legs at all—lizards are found all over the world in almost every type of terrain.

Cold-blooded animals, they rely on their environment to warm up, using the heat of the sun to raise their body temperature, becoming active with their bodies are warm.

Amazed at the unusual finding, Reddit users rushed to the comments to share their feelings about the lizard nest.

"Had to double-check with my wife—apparently lizard eggs are not a standard part of a woman's makeup kit?" joked one commenter.

Others likened the find to the plot of hit HBO series Game of Thrones. One commenter wrote: "Oh wow! You might be the mother of dragons."

U/nura_zakir told Newsweek: "My first reaction was WTF, I didn't expect it to go viral, either."

"Yes! Free lizards," said another Reddit user. While one commenter wrote: "Congrats, you're a lizard mom now."

One Reddit user said: "These beauty blender alternatives are getting out of control," and another comment joked: "You should monitor it."

Native to Southeast Asia, parts of Australia, the U.S., South and Central America, Africa, and the Middle East, the common house gecko is often seen climbing the walls of houses and buildings, drawn to porch lights that help them keep warm. Completely harmless, they prefer urban environments and their carnivorous diet means they frequently eat cockroaches, termites, butterflies, moths, flies, spiders and beetles.

"Raise them as your own and build an army," said one commenter: "No mosquitoes shall breach your defenses."
