Franklin, Greendale police received reports of man going door-to-door in the middle of the night
A man seen dressed in medical scrubs and a stethoscope asking for money has been arrested.
Greenfield police announced they took the man into custody Tuesday. It's not known yet what he is being charged with.
Doorbell cameras have captured the man the last several weeks walking up to front doors in the middle of the night or early morning.
Joe Cerar of Greendale answered his door Tuesday morning and spoke to the man, who claimed he had just gotten off of work.
"He said he was trying to get into his home. The door was bolted shut. He couldn't get in, so he called someone to help, and the gentleman wouldn't take his ATM card, so he asked for cash," Cerar said.
Cerar told WISN 12 News that that's the moment he became skeptical.
"I said 'I have no cash,' slammed the door shut, bolted it and we called police," he said.
It was an identical experience for Mary Miljkovic.
"I was pretty tired because he woke me up but then it kind of clicked towards the end that he just wanted money and was trying to get a way to get money," she said.
Franklin police have heard similar stories from their own residents after posting a warning on the department's Facebook page. They also learned of recent reports in Oak Creek, Greenfield and Greendale.
Greendale police said they knew who the person is and where he lives and issued a citation for Tuesday morning's incidents.
"Further contact with this subject will be dealt with on a case by case basis," Greendale police department officials wrote on Facebook.
