It has become a means of usual transport that nobody is surprised to find more than one electric scooter when we go down the street.

The appearance of these small personal mobility vehicles in our cities has caused some controversysince there are still legal gaps to finish regulating its use and its relationship both with pedestrians and with the rest of the vehicles that circulate on the road.

Among all these debates, a question has arisen, especially from regular users of the electric scooter and it has to do with the need or not to register this personal mobility vehicle. So what do we mean by them? In what cases should we do it and in which would it only be recommended?

Thus, the DGT offered the municipalities a series of interim recommendations so that they were the ones who imposed the regulation. Given the different regulations that had been established in each municipal ordinance, the DGT has become serious and has decided to unify in a single regulation the rules to follow to circulate safely in this VMP and that pedestrians, scooters and other users of public roads can coexist peacefully.

According to regulations, scooters cannot drive faster than 25 km/h, nor can they circulate on the sidewalks and, depending on the municipal ordinance of each locality, they may use the road in sections limited to 30 km/h or on pedestrian streets with a maximum speed of 20 km/h. Otherwise, they must circulate on cycle paths. Therefore, yes, there are cases where it is mandatory to register, while in others it is not:

You have to do it as soon as possible, since you will not be able to circulate with your electric scooter without a license plate. While the procedure is being carried out, you can request a temporary registrationthe famous green plate.
