STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As several of the victim’s family members sobbed softly in the audience, a jury on Thursday convicted Linden Beaton of raping, kidnapping and murdering Johynita Jordan, 69, three years ago on the North Shore.

Beaton, 35, who was garbed in a dark sport coat, tan pants and collared shirt, looked down at the defense table as the foreman read the verdict in state Supreme Court, St. George.
