Never have to spend a fortune on razor heads ever again

We're here for the 'let it grow' body-hair movement in all its low maintenance glory. But we can admit there are some instances when you might want legs to feel as smooth as a baby dolphin. If you do choose to remove your body hair, a shaving subscription is a game-changer.

We know what you're thinking, another subscription commitment (between Pret and Netflix, it's sometimes hard to keep track of all our outgoings) but we promise, it's worth it.

We'll go into the details later, but as a teaser, it can help make your hair-removal regime more eco-friendly and save you some coins in the long run – seriously, what's better than that?

If you're up for trying a shaver subscription, we're already a step ahead and asked our panel of beauty testers to trial the best ones on the scene, to see which one's worth the commitment.

First up, here's all the reasons why you need a shaving subscription in your life...

Shaver subscriptions are a fuss-free way of making sure whatever you need for your hair removal regime arrives straight to your door, as and when you need it.

Just like a coffee pod service or getting beauty boxes delivered through your letterbox, they allow you to forget about remembering all the little stuff, so you can get on with the fun stuff.

Razor subscriptions do what they say on the tin and deliver you fresh shaver heads and accessories – like shaving gels or foams – on a regular basis. They're fully customisable and allow you to alter and manage deliveries, so you never have to attempt to shave with a rusty blunt blade again *shudders*.

If you can't remember the last time you changed your shaver head, this is for you.

There's no denying the impact those little plastic disposable razors have on the environment. Billions end up in landfills every year, making them a huge contributor to our plastic waste problem. Safe to say, Greta would not be pleased.

The shavers you pick up in supermarkets are encased in so much thick plastic, it's easier to get into the next series of Love Island than break into the packaging. Subscription services on the other hand, deliver your kit straight to your door in cardboard boxes, without being individually wrapped. Many services also only include recyclable, recycled or compostable packaging materials.

While there's only one brand on our list that's completely plastic-free, most razor subscriptions are a great eco-friendly alternative for quite a few reasons. Instead of plastic, most opt for more sturdy and long-lasting materials (like steel), so your razor will last you longer, keeping wastage to a minimum.

The fact that you're cutting out the middleman (aka your local pharmacy or supermarket) and dealing with the brand directly, will save you some well-earned money and will help reduce carbon emissions from shipping here, there and everywhere, too.

Shaver subscriptions have become quite the trend, so it’s safe to say there’s almost too much choice. While we've narrowed down our favourites below, here are a few things to keep in mind before signing up:

Add-ons: As we've mentioned, some come with the option to customise your shave. So, if you fancy a bougie shaving gel to help smooth things along, make sure it's an option. On the other hand, if you just want to keep things to a minimum and keep costs down by just getting the blades, check this is available, too.

Features: Sensitive skin? Some cater specifically for the cause by including blades packed with soothing ingredients (like aloe) to help avoid irritation. If this is a must for you, we've noted down the ones that come with the option.

Cost: Many will feature a discounter starter kit (or in some cases, free) but it's always worth checking what the long-term cost of the subscription is. It also comes down to your add-ons and how often you shave, as you might need more blades delivered, if you're on a strict shaving schedule.

Our panel of 165 testers put 11 razor subscription services to the test for eight weeks, to see which provided the best hair-removal experience.

They noted how convenient the delivery was, the communication from the brand, how easy each razor was to use and the design of the product itself, as well as how well each shaver tackled unwanted hair.

This brand is pretty new on the shaving scene but seemed to win all our testers over. Did we mention Ashely Graham is the face of the brand? We're sold.

The shaver is made from hardy Swedish steel and the blades feature a flexible hinge design, to allow you to get into all crevasses. The design made it easy for our entire panel to tackle those trickier areas (like the ankles and knees), with everyone loving the close and comfortable shave.

The blades are coated in aloe vera and shea butter, making them ideal for those on the sensitive side. Overall, everyone was pleased with how efficient the delivery service was and the luxe look of the packaging.

Estrid have been dominating our social media feeds with their pastel razors for as long as we can remember, but they proved popular with our testers, too.

The fun-coloured shavers were a hit amongst testers for brightening up their showers, with everyone raving about the long-lasting sharpness of the blades, that remained totally rust-free. Everyone appreciated the gentle shave that was irritation-free for most.

One tester noted that "the packaging itself is simple yet pretty, and fully recyclable", with the majority loving how luxe the razor felt.

Nuddy have gone the extra mile when it comes to eliminating plastic waste and have ditched it completely with this service.

Made from solid brass, this shaver comes in a range of fun colours and gave one tester; "the smoothest shave I’ve ever had". It was irritation-free for our panel, with most raving about the comfortable shave.

The blades proved long-lasting and avoided any rust, but it wasn't the clearest when it came to how to best recycle them (Nuddy suggest taking them to your local metal waste bank). This didn’t deter our panel though, with most saying they'd continue to use the service for all their shaving needs in the future.

While the brand name sums up our thoughts when you put on a dress, only to realise you've skipped a few (ok, months) of shaving once you're on the tube, it actually stands for 'fuss-free shaving', which our testers agreed it lived up to.

The brand gives you the option to add on an array of shaving extras, from scrubs to wax strips, all packaged in 100% FSC approved cardboard.

It removed hair in just one stroke for most, leaving everyone with puppy-soft skin. Everyone also loved the fun, modern packaging. The brand also has a blade recycling scheme; all you have to do is send them back. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

These chic razors are designed for every one and every area. The blades feature a strip jam-packed with vitamin E, designed to soothe and reduce irritation, while cutting through even the coarsest of hair.

In fact, the blades are designed to be the longest-lasting out there in a bid to cut down on waste, which our testers believed lived up to the hype.

It removed all hair with ease, with our entire panel impressed with the communication from the brand before their delivery. The look was described as "sleek" by one and impressively, their packaging is either recyclable, recycled or compostable.
